CHANGE OF ADDRESS
Now
that you're moving, you need to make sure that your mail
moves with you and let friends, family, clubs, companies
and certain government agencies know your whereabouts.
There
are some great services to make this task easier and there
are three fundamental tasks you need to complete.
- Pick up a change-of-address form from Australia Post or
use the online form.
- Have your mail forwarded to your new address - pick this
form up from Australia Post. Whenever the post office
receives mail addressed to your old residence, a sticker
with your new address is placed onto the envelope, and the
mail is then delivered to your new address. This service
usually lasts for 1 to 3 months but check it out at
Australia Post.
- Contact everybody you know - even though your mail is
being forwarded, people and companies still don't know
that you have moved. You must inform them of your new
address. Although some of these may be informed by the
'change of address' service, there are many others
that need to know.
Whilst
you have your mail forwarding service, make the effort to
contact everyone you receive mail from. Here is a general
checklist of important people and businesses to remember.
Keep in mind, this list is by no means extensive and
certain items may not apply to everyone, but it should be
enough to get you started.

Remember:
If you don't inform the post office of your new address,
no one will be able to find you.
Once
your forwarding service finishes, mail will be 'returned
to sender'. |
