When
deciding on which rental property will be best for you, it
is important to consider the aspects of security features
and security issues.
It
is important to find out what security features are
installed in the property. Landlords are required to
provide the property in good condition and with reasonable
security precautions such as window and door locks to make
the property secure. Landlords are not required to provide
additional security measures but you may be able to
install these at your own cost with the prior written
permission of the landlord.
Security
issues also extend beyond the property. If you are in a
unit complex find out whether there are any type of
security guards or patrols on site or if there is any type
of surveillance. Ask if they re-key apartments once the
old tenants move out.
Check
the lighting around the property. Check whether there are
smoke alarms and whether there are (and where) the fire
escape stairs are. Assess the conditions of getting to and
from the car parking area and whether there is a lock on a
garage if there is one.
With
these basic questions answered, you can more confidently
decide on which place you will feel most secure in as your
new home. |
